NAQP Passing Mults

E-mail Print PDF

Obviously we're not going to mess with passing every Q when we have high rate hours.  But there will be many slow periods thoughout the contest when passing every contact to the other band will result in more contacts over the course of the entire contest.  Below is a screen shot of what to do when you want to pass a contact in N1MM.  You are running on 20 meters and K1TO calls you.  We have to figure out if he is a needed contact or even mult on the other run frequency.  There are two ways to find out if he is a needed contact: 1 look in the CHECK box above the entry window.  There you will see that FL is a mult on every band.  You can also look above the check box in the red area of the log.  This will show if you have made a contact with K1TO on any other band.  If you are not passing a mult or a Q then you will hit enter to send the exchange and then enter to log the contact and send QRZ.  However, we want to pass K1TO to our other run station.  After you copy K1TO's information, instead of hitting enter you will hit F6.  This will do several things: log the contact, QRS by 4 wpm send the QRG of the other radio's run frequency, increase speed by 4 wpm, and send TU K5GO.  You don't have to know what the QRG is of the other rig, because N1MM knows were it is and will send it for you.  I always like to know where the other rig is, so you can look in the upper right hand box in the info window.  The blue highlighted areas show you the name of the stations and the current frequencies of each station.

Below is a screen shot of when it is NOT a new contact or new mult on the other run radio.  Again you are on 20 meters and the other run radio is on 15.  W0UA calls in on 20.  You copy is call and hit enter.  At this point N1MM is sending the exchange and you can look in either of the red highlighted areas: check window or logging window.  Both show us that we have already worked him on 15 meters, which is where the other run radio is.  So now you know that you don't need him on 15 and after copying his name and state, you hit enter again to log the contact and send QRZ.

10 meters will have its own rig so we can check to see if it's open throughout the contest (it will be where 15 is during the multi-multi contests).  In the even that 10 does open and we are running, we will want to send EVERY contact from the other radio to 10 meters.  Instead of hitting F6 as you did in the above example you will hit F10 which is labeled PASS 10 METERS.  This will log the contact and send the QSY message for the appropriate frequency on 10 meters.  All of this may be a lot to digest, but after a couple of contests it will be second nature.  The hardest part is remembering to check to see if the Q is needed and then hitting F6 to log the contact, send the QSY message, and send QRZ instead of hitting the enter key to log the contact and send QRZ (F10 if sending to 10).
